Gala Fairydean Rovers slumped to their first defeat against BSC Glasgow, however there were multiple positives in the game, and on another night at least a point could have easily been taken back to Netherdale. GFR started brightly, with one of the three trialists in the squad bursting down the left and just failing to control the ball at the final hurdle. The visitors had the momentum, and Rhys Craigie stung the palms of BSC keeper Marshall after three minutes. BSC were being hassled and harried by the Gala forwards, and the pressure almost told when trialist won the ball on the edge of the box, but he flashed his shot into the side netting. The game swung on it's head after fifteen minutes, with BSC captain Grehan flicking the ball on for Redpath to fire in the opening goal. Gala were to be undone once again just two minutes later, with McStay's twenty-five yard free kick taking a wicked deflection off the wall and totally changing direction, leaving Lewis Muir in the goals stranded. The visitors should have halved the deficit just minutes before half time, with Ross Aitchison's wonderful cross landing to Darren Smith eight yards out, but his powerful drive was parried away by Marshall. The best chance of the game went to Gala after fifty two minutes, with a stramash in the box falling at the feet of Craig Heugh, but his effort was far too powerful and the ball ballooned over the gaping net. The home side grabbed a third goal after sixty five minutes, with Jack Smith rounding Lewis Muir and rolling the ball calmly into the net. They added a fourth just five minutes later, Redpath grabbing his second after good play in the midfield with a slotted finish. GFR didn't go down without a fight, and Stuart Noble climbed off the bench to grab a consolation on seventy seven minutes, latching onto a slack back pass and rounding the keeper to net on his return to a stadium where he is still held in high regard. Overall, 4-1 definitely did not reflect the game and Gala Fairydean Rovers were very unlucky in a topsy turvy clash in difficult conditions.
