GFR WEEKLY UPDATE

NO GAME

AFTER two wins on the bounce, Gala Fairydean Rovers take a break from Lowland League action this weekend. It is likely the team will have a friendly match away from home. But there are still some big matches coming up before the end of the season. Gala will travel to play Spartans on Saturday, March 25, before entertaining East Kilbride at Netherdale on Saturday, April 1, when the Lanarkshire outfit may have the opportunity of clinching the league title.

The last two league fixtures are scheduled for Saturday, April 15 when Gretna visit Netherdale and Saturday, April 22, with a trip to play Cumbernauld. Gala have been drawn at home to Edinburgh University in the opening round of the Lowland League Cup on Saturday, April 29.

2004 SQUAD

Although the under 13s went down to a 5-1 home defeat to Leith Athletic on Sunday, it was a scoreline which flattered the visitors following a much improved performance from Gala. In a gutsy display, Gala matched their opponents for most of the match but the game turned on a soft penalty decision for the visitors midway through the second half when the score was 2-1. Damien Konowalski had netted for the home side. There were lots of positives to take from the game with Gala playing some great football and showing plenty of heart and desire throughout the whole squad. No fixture this weekend.

2003 SQUAD

The under 14s were in fine form at the weekend beating first division outfit Musselburgh Young Stars in a friendly match. The scorers were Adrian Kulik, 4, and Emil Neves. The team is trying to arrange another friendly match for this Sunday.

2002 SQUAD

The under 15s produced a tremendous fightback against North Berwick Colts at the 3G Arena on Sunday and were unfortunate to finish up empty-handed.

Trailing 3-0, Gala came storming back with goals from Jaden Smith, Faustas Joudekis and Blair Turner only for the visitors to grab a late winner. The under 15s are away to Portobello this Sunday, transport times to be confirmed at training.

2001 SQUAD

The under 16s continued on their winning ways with a 2-1 win away to Salvesen CFC Reds on Sunday. Jack Noble and Dan Cairnie were the Gala scorers. This Sunday, the team is at home to North Merchiston. Kick off at the 3G Arena is 12.30p.m.

2000 SQUAD

The under 17s lost narrowly 1-0 to Oxgangs at the Public Park on Saturday. This Saturday Gala host Spartans FC Reds at the 3G Arena, kick off 1p.m.

LOTTO

There were no winning tickets in the weekly Gala Fairydean Rovers Lotto draw. The numbers were 1, 6 and 10. That means the estimated jackpot this weekend is £600.

BONUS BALL

Ryan Allison was the winner of the £25 prize in the Gala Fairydean Rovers Bonus Ball competition with number 46.

HALF TIME DRAW

The winner of the 50/50 Half Time Draw at the Gala Fairydean Rovers v BSC Glasgow game on Saturday was Julie Bowers from Glasgow who won £38.50.
