GFR WEEKLY UPDATE

NO GAME

AFTER all the late drama from Saturday's 2-1 victory over Edusport Academy, Gala Fairydean Rovers have no fixture this weekend.

But there are plenty of big games coming up in the next few weeks.

GFR travel to play Gretna on Saturday, December 9, and the following Saturday Dalbeattie Star are the visitors to the 3G Arena. A trip to Spartans takes place on December 23 before the big festive Borders derby double-header at Netherdale. On Saturday, December 30 Hawick Royal Albert are the visitors to the 3G Arena and Selkirk will be the first-footers on Saturday, January 6, both Lowland League matches will kick off at 3pm.

HOME GAME

Gala Fairydean Rovers Amateurs are at home this Saturday in a league match against Berwick Colts. This is a re-run of the recent Collie Cup Final which the Colts won 3-2. But with home advantage, GFR Amateurs hope to turn the tables. Kick off at the 3G Arena is 2p.m.

2005 SQUAD

The under 13s recorded a 4-2 victory away to Salvesen CFC in the Edinburgh Cup on Sunday. This Sunday the team travels to play Kirkliston South Queensferry in the Lothian Buses Cup.

2004 SQUAD

The under 14s kept up their good league form with a 4-0 victory over Dunbar United at the 3G Arena on Sunday. After a below par first half where the teams went in level, Gala flew out of the blocks in the second and two goals from Finlay Wheelans settled the nerves before Kerr Johnston added a third with a well worked goal. Ross Moffat scrambled home the fourth in the closing moments to seal the victory. Next up is an away tie at AC Oxgangs in the David Innes Cup. Transport times to be confirmed at training.

2003 SQUAD

The under 15s won away from home at Lochend YFC on Sunday. This Sunday the team is at home to Edinburgh South CFC in a league game. Kick off at the 3G Arena is 2pm.

2002 SQUAD

The under 16s were unfortunate to go down 3-2 at home to Dunbar United Colts at the 3G Arena on Sunday. Declan Bell and Graham Clark were the Gala scorers. This Sunday the team is at home to Bonnyrigg Rose Pumas. Kick off at the 3G Arena is 12 noon.

JOHN IRVING

Everyone at Gala Fairydean Rovers FC was saddened to hear of the passing of John Irving. He was 82. John was a stalwart at the club for years and was eventually recognised for his services by being awarded a life membership of the Fairydean in 2006. He was the last secretary of the Gala Fairydean Supporters Club in the days when they ran not one but two buses to away matches. John served the club in various capacities over the years including groundsman.

His funeral service will take place at the Borders Crematorium near Melrose on Friday at 2pm.

FRANK CAMPBELL

A minute's silence was held before the Gala Fairydean Rovers v Edusport Academy match on Saturday in memory of the Rev. Frank Campbell

who was a familiar figure at Netherdale. The Church of Scotland minister was an assistant referee at Lowland League fixtures in the Borders as well as a referee at Border Amateur matches throughout the region and will be sadly missed.

A service of thanksgiving for his life will take place at Ancrum Parish Church on Friday at 1 p.m.
