GFR WEEKLY UPDATE

AWAY DAY

AFTER an inactive weekend, Gala Fairydean Rovers are back on Lowland League duty this Saturday. The team travels to play Gretna at Raydale Park | Kick off 3pm. A supporters bus will be running to this match. Meet at the clubrooms at 11.45am for a prompt 12 noon departure.

AMATEURS WIN

GALA Fairydean Rovers Amateurs recorded an excellent 4-2 win over high-flying Berwick Colts a the 3G Arena on Saturday. Gala started the game well and quickly got into there passing game and carved out a couple of early chances a great point blank save from the Berwick keeper kept Gala at bay. A good passing move starting from the back ended with a great cross from Calum Riddell and a good finish from a Kieran Crawford at the back post.

Gala scored a second goal their play merited when Shane Greene strode forward from defence and played in Jason Mcintosh with a fine pass Mcintosh composed himself and stroked the ball home. Manager Mike Riddell warned his players at half time that this game wasn’t over and next goal was crucial.

Gala started the second half were they left off and were in control of the match and carved out 2 or 3 clear chances but combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the score line the same. Berwick showed a good team spirit and pulled 2 goals back in quick succession.

The young GFR team rolled there sleeves up and showed a bit of character to take the lead again with Derek Stoddart scoring is first goal for Gala. Andy Crawford was sent clear and the Berwick goalkeeper pulled off a good save but Jason Mcintosh sealed the game when he was quickest to react to the rebound of the goalie and fired the ball into the net.

Next up for GFR Ams is a trip to Peebles on Saturday to play Tweeddale Rovers in the opening round of the Waddell Cup. Kick off at Kerfield Park is 1.30pm.

2005 SQUAD

The under 13s won 7-5 away to Kirkliston South Queensferry in the Lothian Buses Cup on Sunday. The team are on their travels again this Sunday. This time to play Arniston Rangers in the Colin Campbell Sports Cup.

2004 SQUAD

The under 14s came away from AC Oxgangs with a 6-4 victory to progress to the semi finals of the David Innes Cup. Finn Douglas had a hat trick to his name within the first 20 minutes with another following from Finlay Wheelans soon after but Gala took their foot off the gas to allow Oxgangs back into it and the half time score was 4-3. An improved and more disciplined performance followed in the 2nd half with Damien Konowalski adding a brace to finish the game off. Next up is an away tie on Sunday to Kirkliston South Queensferry in the Kenny McLean Cup. Details to be confirmed at training.

2003 SQUAD

The under 15s defeated Edinburgh South 3-2 in a keenly contested match at the 3G Arena on Sunday. Scorers for the home side were Dylan Curran, 2, and Sam Derrick. This Sunday Kirkliston South Queensferry are the visitors to the 3G Arena. Kick off is 12 noon.

2002 SQUAD

The under 16s went down to league leaders Bonnyrigg Rose Pumas 9-1 at the 3G Arena on Sunday. Declan Bell scoring the home side's consolation goal. This Sunday the team is away to Hutchison Vale Colts.

LOTTO

There were no winning tickets in the weekly Gala Fairydean Rovers Lotto Draw. The numbers were 9, 16 and 17. That means the estimated jackpot this weekend rises to £1200 .

BONUS BALL

No-one had number 52 in the weekly Gala Fairydean Rovers Bonus Ball competition. There will be a rollover prize this weekend.
